The Nina and The Wolf presented a new lingerie collection of a season Fall /Winter 2017/18 “Noctis Lux”.
We asked Gaia, one of the brand founders, how the collection was created and where the designers draw inspiration.
“If you see the Noctis Lux inspiration boards you will see that the first ideas were far from what it was realized in the end. But that is how the creative process works, or at least how itworks for us. We have an idea and then we fall in love with a fabric that is completely wrong for our first designs so we tweek and change in order to find the right “potion”.
For Noctis Lux the first inspiration was sparked from a sleepless night. I woke up very early in the morning and as I couldn’t fall back asleep I decided to have a coffee on my porch, in the darkness of the early morning hours. Then the first light of the morning started to brighten the sky, and the grass turned to a beautiful emerald green. I knew I wanted that color in the collection and that I wanted night and day to mix together just as I had just experienced in those moments.
That’s why we decided to mix the emerald green to a more classical black.
We started to look for the right materials starting from the colors but we immediately hit a rock… apparently green wasn’t in any of the color swatches of fabrics we wanted. Not great. But we really believed that emerald green was the right shade for us and for the collection, so we did the only thing we could do… keep on searching.
After months of hearing “we can’t do it with this material” and “the minimums for this fabric are too high for you” we finally found it! A stunning Italian silk in the perfect hue of green.
We have also decided to go back to our roots and give a clear distinction between Nina and her alter ego, The Wolf.
The Wolf part of the collection is inspired the moments right before dawn. When you can distinguish only the shadows of the world and everything is still enveloped in the darkness of the night. We have used a very thin and resistant fabric called bilight matched with black straps that give the styles a very sexy look.
This part of the collection is composed of a strappy bodysuit, a sexy thong and two bras: a sport inspired bra and our signature suspender bra with underwire. One black silk slip dress ties the Wolf collection to the silky Nina one.
The Nina collection instead is all made in Italian emerald silk and was inspired by those moments when the light breaks the darkness and makes the grass look sparkly and shiny, just like emerald silk.
This part of the collection has: one lingerie set with Brazilian knickers and a cupped bra. We have used swimsuit insertable cups that are smaller than lingerie cups as they are usually inserted in triangle-padded swimsuits.
We thought they were perfect for the type of look we wanted to give, leaving the bust showing while all it’s roundness but still covering a little. We have then added a tank top and a pair of shorts that can be matched like a sexy PJ or used separately in your everyday look.
This collection is just gorgeous and we are very proud to be able to source only Italian fabrics and producing 100% of our garments in Italy.
It’s quite hard sometimes to find the good compromise between what it’s in our heads and what we can actually afford in order to keep prices affordable yet giving the best quality.”
The new collection will be available in the online store of the brand in mid-October.
